Sometimes as I sit and think about the reality that surrounds all of us, a stray thought will pass through my mind that is the seed of something; a story, a quote, a scene. They are mostly useless, sometimes funny, sometimes overwrought and introspective. I write them down here to see if they take root and grow into something worthwhile.

“If you fill your head with enough words, some are bound to fall out.”

“Conspiracy theories are gossip for the intellectually numb. They invent answers for questions nobody has asked, and defences for assumptions nobody has challenged.”

“The girl’s nose was pierced, as were her eyebrows in four places, her nostrils, her tongue, her ears, and her lower lip. He tried not to stare, then gave up with a shrug assuming the bemetaled spectacle was created to elicit prolonged study. To do anything less, would be plain silly and completely against nature. Not unlike stapling your tongue with a metal spike, he thought as his own tongue circled and curled against his teeth in empathetic angst. His eyes flashed from pointed prongs to beaded hoops to spit skewered flesh in rapid succession wondering as he did this if her eyes lit up when she dragged her feet across a carpet.”

“Sales people are a weird breed, he thought as the man in the impossibly tacky suit jacket walked down the row of ’slightly’ used cars. They are born into this world covered in slime and never really emerge out of it into the real world. Through this thin membrane of viscous sludge they are able to lie cheat and steal with impunity and for some reason know only to chemists and anthropologists we accept this behavior as normal as they feed the gears of commerce.”

“Why must creativity slice so close to the jugular of sanity?”

“False genius is a just a complex construct pretending to be profound. Real, profound genius is a ghost that walks amongst us; Simple direct and unseen until pointed out by someone who has the vision and sensitivity to describe things as they really are. One should be careful never to confuse a ghost generated by a team of special effects artists and a room full of computers, with the real thing.”

“Ideas are genius, not people. Some people can be sensitive to genius. They can guide us, show us the trail, show us where genius sleeps, and where it eats. But genius never points at itself and says ‘Here I am.’”

“In the dictionary, between profanity and profundity there should be the word; profoundity. A noun, meaning a blasphemous or obscene idea that uses frightening insight. Like gas chambers disguised as showers or the documented burn efficiency of crematoriums in Auschwitz.”
